I am a M.S. student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park advised by Dr. Monifa Vaughn-Cooke. My interests are quite varied, ranging from development of highly usable devices to web development tools. Durning my M.S. research, I have developed a strong interest in the variations of techniques used to interactively convey information through visual means. As a research assistant in the Hybrid System Integration and Simulation (HSIS) Lab, I have conducted research focused on the identification of user needs and usability issues in medical devices particularly in glucometers. In addition, I am investigating different techniques for improving provider/patient communication including integration of Patient Health Records (PHR) and provider Electronic Health Records (EHR) for an improved methodology associated with the management of chronic diseases.
I received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad Centroamericana Jose Simeon Canas (UCA) in my home country El Salvador. After graduating, I first worked in the Electric Power Generation industry and later in Aviation. In 2012, I was granted a Fulbright Scholarship to pursue graduate studies.
